What would make today great?
“What would make today great?”
This is one of the daily prompts in The Five Minute Journal. Below the question, there’s space to write three things. For a long time, my responses were tasks I had to do that day – finish this project, respond to that email, etc.
This was fine. Identifying priorities is important. But, more often than not, I still ended the day feeling… somehow… unfulfilled.
So, I shifted my interpretation of the question from “what to do” to “who to be.” In other words, what kind of energy did I want to bring to my day and my interactions?
With this shift, my response started to sound like, “appreciate the little moments” or “live in my values” or “let myself feel and heal” or “show up with strength and compassion.”
This intention-setting allowed me to approach moments and interactions with presence. I felt centered, grounded, and aligned. I felt awake and alive. Again, I was learning to trust myself.
Amy Cuddy says, “[Our search for presence] is about the honest, powerful connection that we create internally, with ourselves.”
So, I pose these same questions to you – What would make today great? Who do you want to be? What kind of energy will you bring to your day and interactions?
