An Individual Message from a Global Stage
These (^) words, spoken by Canadian Prime Minister, Mark Carney, were communicated on a global stage within a global context. But there is a message for us to hear as individuals as well. We are being invited to stop performing, to examine where the “rules-based order is fading” within ourselves, and to question the rituals we privately know are false. (1)
To be in integrity is to be one, whole, and undivided. We’ve discussed this before. It is a recognition and intention to live in truth, united and aligned with all parts of ourselves. When truth is scarce from external sources, we must learn how to look for it within.
We must return to our integrity.
Carney points out, “When even one person stops performing… the illusion begins to crack.” And the ripple effects of this are measurable. In a recent podcast episode titled Wayfinding Through Chaos, Martha Beck stated, “One person who is truly coherent [in integrity] can pull, I’m talking neurological entrainment, can pull thousands of people into coherence…” (2)
In this way, our return to integrity, our liberation is not one way.
(3 & 4: I won’t get into the science of this in this newsletter… largely because I’m still learning about it myself… but I’ll share a few sources in a footnote below.)
Carney asks, “What does it mean for middle powers to live the truth?” And he answers with this, “First, it means naming reality. … It means acting consistently, … It means building what we claim to believe in.”
This is the exact call to action being asked of us as individuals. To name reality, to act consistently, and to build what we claim to believe in. To build our future, our vision, and all of the Ideas within from a place of joy, for the benefit of us as individuals, and for the benefit of the greater collective. Because when a vision is born from integrity, it is inherently for the good of all.
In her book, What You Want Wants You, Suzanne Eder echoes this truth saying, “What you genuinely want to express, experience, and create is what the world most benefits in receiving from you or experiencing with you.” (5)
The energy with which I’m writing this newsletter and the deep connection I feel to Anomaly’s vision, is reminding me of this truth.
So, I ask you this…
What reality do you need to name?
Where are you acting inconsistently, meaning out of alignment with your integrity?
From a place of integrity, what is it that you genuinely want?
What false rules, rituals, and beliefs are keeping you from pursuing those desires?
In that same podcast episode, Martha Beck also said, “Here’s the power of reversing all your illusions: when you’re in the place of most victimization in your life, you are also in the point of greatest creativity.” (4)
As a resident of the great state of Minnesota, to say these past weeks have been painful would be a massive understatement. The terror, grief, and dis-ease we are collectively experiencing is palpable. What’s happening here is a reality that must be named. That’s step one of living in truth. But step two, knowing what it means to act consistently (in integrity), is where I’ve been getting stuck. What role am I being asked to play? What is my responsibility? And most of all: Will my contribution be enough?
I had to quiet my mind enough to hear it, but I believe my answer (or part of it) is in the individualized version of Carney’s global invitation. In other words, I believe my role and responsibility is to help people learn how to stop performing, to return to their integrity, to liberate themselves from illusion, and to build something new for the benefit of all. I truly believe that what I do for a living is uniquely qualified to meet this very moment. (I share that belief not from ego, but from a place of deep respect and gratitude.)

In a recent discovery call with a new client, we found ourselves deep in the weeds of possibility, energetics, and non-linear time. We were playing well outside of the current rule-based order and having so much fun doing so! At one point, he looked at me and asked genuinely, “Do you have conversations like this with a lot of people?”
I answered, “More than you might expect.”
As a coach, I do my best to meet clients where they are. Not all clients are ready to discuss possibility, energetics, and non-linear time… and that’s perfectly okay! I’m honored to connect with anyone who is ready to stop performing, regardless of where they are in that journey.
But when I have the opportunity to meet and co-create with someone ready to play outside the box, those conversions spark something powerful within me. They give me the energy to carry on, to live it to give it (as we coaches say).
Joy and connection are the way through this chaos.
We are not meant to do this work alone. As middle powers living outside of the status quo, we are stronger together. We are seeing that here in Minnesota.
In his closing comments, Carney states, “The powerful have their power. But we have something too: the capacity to stop pretending, to name reality, to build our strength at home, and to act together.”
Let us do the same and watch the ripples spread.
